Second Star to the Right, and Straight on 'Til Morning

Yes, this site still exists, though there are cobwebs in the corners and a thick layer of dust everywhere.

The Spoiler-free Opinion Summary was born on Usenet back in the 90s. It was one of the earliest attempts on the net to gather and collate feedback directly from the fans regarding the shows they loved. Every week, I would collect ratings (first by email, then via the web). Every week, I would post summaries of the results to the rec.arts.startrek.reviews newsgroup. Every year, I would put together a special post looking back at the season gone by.

The S.O.S. largely died with Usenet as well. Or rather, it died with the last of the serialized Trek series of that era (Enterprise), which roughly corresponded to the time when Usenet was breathing its last gasps and yielding to the new wonders of the World Wide Web.

I'll freely admit that I've largely neglected the site in the years since. Without new weekly content, there wasn't much interest in the ol' girl. And even though Trek is currently experiencing its largest resurgence in decades, I doubt it would be possible to ever bring the S.O.S. back to its former relevance and "glory". Instead, I'm simply posting this final update. Soon, I will be disabling the submission and editing of ratings on the site. I will keep it up in read-only mode, though -- for the sake of reference, posterity, and nostalgia.

And so, to any visitors who might wander into this neck of the woods in the future, I guess there's only one thing left to say...

Peace. Live long and prosper.
