Then Artoo explained, with See-Threepio's help That a short kept him from showing more. So Luke cut the bolt that restrained the small droid, But the girl disappeared from the floor. Just then, Aunt Beru called to say, "Dinner's done," And so Luke left the droids all alone. And when he sat down at the table to eat, He began in his most sincere tone: "I think those new droids will both work out just fine. So I wondered if maybe somehow, Instead of my waiting another whole year, I could join the Academy now." His uncle looked up with a scowl on his face. And Luke's hope faded quick as a ghost. "What, leave before harvest? You can't do that, Luke. That's the time that I need you the most." Luke stood up to leave in a frustrated huff, As he thought, "This is just so unfair." "Now where are you going?" his Aunt Beru asked. "Well, it looks like I'm going nowhere." He left then to finish his work on the droids. Beru turned to her husband and said, "Luke's just not a farmer. He's so like his dad." Owen nodded. "That's what I most dread." Outside on the sand plain, Luke stood in deep thought, Gazing skyward as both the suns set. And somehow he knew that his future lay there Though in what way, he could not say yet. He reached the garage, but no droid did he see, So he thumbed the restraining bolt switch. Then Threepio stood. "Sir, I told him to stay! But he's faulty. It's some type of glitch!" "Oh, no!" exclaimed Luke, and he rushed out the door. Then he scanned for the short runaway. His binocs revealed no trace of Artoo As the night turned the desert to grey. "The Sandpeople make it too dangerous now. When it's light, we will set out for sure. That droid's gonna get me in trouble, you know." "Oh indeed, he excels at that, sir!" |
